Fundição Magma is one of the main companies operating in the recovery, recycling and improvement of metallic residues (scrap), such as copper, bronze, brass and zinc, to produce, among others, copper ingots.

This ecologically correct process for recovering metallic residues makes it possible to return the original properties to recycled metals, through adjustments in the alloys, so that they resume the specificities determined by international standards. As a result, Fundição Magma embodies the concept of an eco-friendly company – an institution friendly to the environment. The term, in English, is used to designate companies that do not cause socio-environmental damage and that act to reduce impacts on the environment, valuing a sustainable production and concept of life.

Preserving natural resources, improving people’s quality of life, returning non-usable residues to production activities in the form of copper ingots as they are found, gives our company a spirit of responsibility and social commitment, with which we form our responsible company culture.

To be produced through waste recovery, a portion of raw material already selected is heated above its melting point, laboratory and balanced to adjust to the intended alloy. It is then poured into a bar-shaped mold (copper ingot) to make it easy to be handled, transported and stored.

Bronze Ingots Characteristics

The waste recovery process does not prevent from obtaining a product with the original characteristics of the copper ingot. In its pure state, copper is known as honey copper, having a reddish hue. It is a soft metal, which has high electrical and thermal conductivity, in addition to perfect resistance to corrosion, as well as exceptional ductility.

One of its differentials in relation to other metals or alloys is that it manages to be ductile and malleable at the same time. Because of this, we can find it both in the form of wires and sticks.

The extensive use of copper is due to the almost insurmountable characteristics of this metal, such as:

  • High electrical conductivity (electric engines high efficiency)
  • High tensile strenght
  • Low thermal expansion
  • High resistance to corrosion
  • High creep strength
  • High thermal conductivity (it conducts heat eight times faster than other metals. Therefore, it is widely used in heat sinks and heat exchangers in electronic equipment. It eliminates heat faster than other metals, such as aluminum, for example).

Copper Ingots Use

Being the third most used metal in the world, the use of copper ingots is widely diversified. It is used, for example, in the manufacture of electromagnets, vacuum tubes, magnetons and microwaves. About 66% of the world production of copper ingots is consumed by the electrical industry, in the manufacture of electrical switches, wires, cables and engines.

Several other compounds are manufactured from copper ingots, such as the semiconductors used in solar cells. Copper can also be part of high-temperature superconductors. Copper oxides and carbonates are used in pigments and in glass making. Copper sulfate is used in agriculture as an herbicide, fungicide and pesticide.

The use of copper ingots, therefore, is extremely diverse and accounts for a large part of weight reduction activities across the planet. In this sense, the fact that it is recyclable without loss of quality contributes significantly to the rationalization of natural stocks of the metal, found in few regions of the planet.
